TIP 12 | WHAT IS MAXIMUM WORKING PRESSURE

Defining Maximum Working Pressure

The maximum pressure rating defines the force in psi that can be exerted on the hydraulic hose during operation. The maximum working pressure of the hose is to be greater than the working pressure of the of the hydraulic system including any momentary pressure surges that the system may be subjected to in service.

As an example to help clarify, the working pressure of ContiTech’ s XR16SC-08 hose is 5000 PSI. This is the maximum pressure that the hose is to be subjected to in service. If the system has momentary pressure surges, lets say to 5200 PSI, then either the hose is to replaced with one that has a working pressure rating at or above 5200 PSI or the relief valve in the system is to be adjusted down to 5000 PSI or below.
